Early Sivas Rug
AGE: circa 1800-1850

Here is a very finely knotted weaving from the Sivas area. It was likely woven by Kurds living in the Sivas area. The warps are fine white wool while the wefts are dark brown wool or possibly goat hair. The large number of beautiful colors and the rare simplistic interior design both point to an early dating. The graduated rectangle within rectangles design, enhanced by well chosen and unique hues of many vegetable dyed colors, forms a harmonious visual impression with great visual depth. The border design is extremely pleasing and generally only seen on early Anatolian rugs. This rug is slightly smaller than 4 X 6 feet and will make the perfect meditation piece to display in your home. This is a woven masterpiece and I am sure it will be published in a nice book someday.
