Early Sivas Rug
AGE: circa 1800-1850
PRICE: Price on Request
Here is a very fine nomadic weaving from the Sivas area. The warps are fine white wool while the wefts are dark brown wool or possibly goat. The very high number of colors and the rare simplistic interior design both point to an early dating, circa 1800. The graduated rectangle within rectangle design enhanced by well chosen and unique hues of so many vegetable dyes forms a harmonious visual impression. The border design is very rare and is seen only on early antique rugs in my experience. This rug is smaller than 4 X 6 feet and will make the perfect meditation piece for your home. This is a woven masterpiece and I am sure it will be published someday.
