Ancient Coptic Textile

This small Coptic textile has a deep wine colored field. The wine field is patterned as carefully as the more dominant white forms are. Seen together, the field 'forms' reinforce the white forms of objective focus. That is a fancy way of saying taken as a whole visual metaphors appear. I see mother goddess imagery here and possibly loaves of bread. This is an aesthetically pleasing textile and a fine representative of the highest level of Coptic weaving. Notice how the scrolling white forms embrace their deep red spaces.
